چکیده
were determined in 19 hypertensive patients (five with renal arterial disease, two with renal parenchymal disease, and 12 with essential hypertension) whose vascular disease was of mild to moderate severity. The drug reduced arterial pressure in 16 patients during 32 weeks of treatment (average); daily dose was 180 mg (average). No side effects required discontinuance of treatment. Orthostatic hypotension did not occur, an unusual finding for an antihypertensive drug which acts to inhibit autonomic neural function. In seven patients, hemodynamic studies, performed during treatment (after 10 months, average), confirmed reduction of arterial pressure and heart rate, and demonstrated associated diminution of cardiac output and increased peripheral resistance.

Effect of beta-adrenergic receptor blockade on atrial natriuretic peptide in essential hypertension.
Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) were measured in 32 untreated subjects with essential hypertension and in 31 patients undergoing long-term treatment with beta-blockers. Patients receiving beta-blockers had significantly higher mean plasma ANP levels (72.0 +/- 36.0 [SD] pg/ml) than did untreated hypertensive subjects (39.8 +/- 15.8 pg/ml; p less than 0.01) and healthy normotens...

متن کاملThe effects of acute beta-adrenergic blockade on aortic wave reflection in postmenopausal women.
BACKGROUND Acute beta-adrenergic blockade increases aortic-wave reflection in young women. However, it is not known whether this effect extends to postmenopausal women. We therefore examined the effect of systemic beta-adrenergic blockade on aortic wave reflection in 14 postmenopausal women with a mean age of 58±2 years. METHODS Aortic pressure waveforms were synthesized noninvasively from high...
متن کاملBeta-adrenergic receptor blockers. Adverse effects and drug interactions.
Adverse effects of beta-adrenergic receptor blocking drugs can be divided into two categories: 1) those that result from known pharmacological consequences of beta-adrenergic receptor blockade; and 2) other reactions that do not appear to result from beta-adrenergic receptor blockade. Adverse effects of the first type include bronchospasm, heart failure, prolonged hypoglycemia, bradycardia, hea...
